Cramer Creek School is a non-profit residential boarding school and treatment center that utilizes the Positive Peer Culture model to serve a co-educational student population between the ages of 12 and 18. Cramer Creek School provides academic and treatment services to students who are typically experiencing significant problems in the following areas: establishing and maintaining positive long-term relationships with family members, peers and adults, learning challenges or disorders, significant setbacks in academic progress, and may present a range of mood, anxiety or behavioral diagnoses.
Cramer Creek addresses these problems through integration of the Positive Peer Culture model through all aspects of our campus including group, individual and family therapy, academic work, recreational activities and student responsibilities in helping to maintain and improve their campus.
The Positive Peer Culture model achieves long-term change by teaching and internalizing pro-social values such as altruism, responsibility, acceptance, and autonomy.
Treatment teams develop individual and group strategies and interventions that teach students the ability and desire to build positive, long-term relationships based on the value of helping others, while challenging students’ counter productive thinking patterns and behaviors based on negative values. These strategies and interventions are designed to teach students the benefits of accepting mature, proactive, and pro-social, responsibilities. The development of a positive value system, based upon the realization that our students can be of value in helping others, allows students to develop a positive self- concept and is the most important tool for problem resolution.
Cramer Creek School’s academic program is individualized and year around. Cramer Creek develops an education plan for each student based on that student’s academic history and needs. Each student’s work is self-paced and academic progress is based on completion of course modules rather than time spent in class. The Po
sitive Peer Culture model is integrated into academic work by using the group process to develop within each student a social interest in his/her, and the group members’, academic success. In other words the students develop a positive value and attribution associated with success in school. Classes are small, with no more than 9 students each, to maximize opportunities for individualized instruction by our teaching staff, to better manage classroom behavior, and to focus on active learning opportunities.
